Transgender Articles, Resources, and Essays

Welcome to the Transgender Area at d332.com While I am a non-op trans*-identified girl, I feel it is important to work together as a transgender community to promote understanding, acceptance, and equal treatment within and for the group. I have written essays about the nature of transvestism within the transgender umbrella, and I have also spoken at gatherings and coming-out weeks at universities. I don't make any distinction between one group of trans* folk from the other. No group has more of an access or a right to own the transgender label because they have access to a procedure or a treatment. Not only does this form of validation separate, it also delays unity from happening. Labeling may help one to form a more coherent self-image, but it should, by no means, be used to exclude. Let's learn from all the former fringe groups who have successfully gained a place in society and look out for each other. Best of luck and keep your hopes high!

Comment threads and flame wars can douse the fire in any flamer (update: March 12, 2010)

I have often heard people refer to being online as “mental masturbation.” If there’s one area that validates this view, it has got to be the “Comments” section in any entry, posting, rant, or news article. Whenever the topic of transgender surfaces (fark.com or cnn.com are good peanut galleries: witness CNN’s Steve [...]

Cultural Imperialism at its most effective: Asian Eyelid Surgery. Parents give it to their kids as birthday presents as early as 15. Proponents say it’s merely “corrective.” I bring your attention to the dyed hair, blue contact lenses, and lightened skin in the AFTER picture.

Fashion Advice for Tgirls (FAT) vol. 1: Self-Censorship and Necklines (update: Feb 1, 2010)

February 1st, 2010 Email This Article

I’m probably the last person anyone should come to for fashion advice. However, just as great musicians may not necessarily make great teachers, it follows that capable observers don’t need to be passing experts. I’m not trying to tell anyone what to wear: it’s only observations and opinions, so take it with a [...]

Whenever I see a trans girl out in public, I secretly smile. It’s encouraging, and it gives me hope. If I am with someone at the moment, then I may nudge them an go, “don’t look now, but there’s one of ours.” I would never announce it to strangers.
So when a trans [...]

Whenever I spend more than ten minutes talking with any of my relatives- including my mother – the subject of modern China’s utter mediocrity and fakeness in almost every aspect of living (except eating Chinese food and loftily declaring China as No.1) comes up. The conversation unfolds in a tone of dismay, dotted with [...]

I have the simplest New Year resolution for 2010: the classic that never goes out of style: lose weight.

1. Less sourpuss, more positive attitude
It’s very difficult for my deadpan humor to translate online. My favorite anecdote [...]

No Dogs or Crossdressers Allowed: How To Pass Online (update: Jan 4, 2010)

January 4th, 2010 Email This Article

First there were dogs.
Then came the Irish.
The Chinese followed.
Mexicans, Spanish, all along a jolly path outlined by black dotted lines.
Now it’s the tranny’s turn.
Browse any girl-watching photo groups on Flickr.com and you will see that many have an urgent, hysterical plea “NO CROSSDRESSERS PLEASE!” in the description.
The wailing cries are summarily ignored. Tranny after [...]

Approximately after two years of considering the purchase of a Mac, I have decided that I’m way out of my league in hip when it comes to spokesperson Justin Long, and their legion of Starbucks laptop screenplayrights, considering my style of obsolescence. So, I decided [...]

I have been listening to the entire catalog of Scottish pop sweethearts Belle & Sebastian. Their album Storytelling was originally written as a score for Todd Solondz’s movie of the same name. After listening to it, I decided to revisit some of Solondz’s films. I loved Welcome to the Dollhouse (I think [...]
